Gary Knell Leaves Sesame; H. Melvin Ming Named Successor
Gary Knell, president and CEO of Sesame Workshop, will become president and CEO of NPR effective December 1. H. Melvin Ming, currently serving as Sesame Workshop’s COO, will succeed Knell as president and CEO of Sesame Workshop, effective October 10.
Knell became CEO of Sesame Workshop in 2000 after joining the company in 1989. During his tenure, the organization has expanded its revenue base, audience, and global recognition.
Ming will lead the nonprofit educational organization in its mission to create innovative, engaging content that maximizes the educational power of media to help children reach their highest potential. Ming joined Sesame Workshop in 1999 as CFO and was named COO in 2002. As COO, Ming oversees the content, product licensing, distribution, research, communications, and business strategies of all of the Workshop’s properties including Sesame Street and its international co-productions.
