Tabletop game creator Exploding Kittens released its first licensed game, inspired by Illumination and Universal Brand Development’s Minions property.
Exploding Minions is for players 7 and up, offering a family-friendly version of a Russian Roulette-style game with new card types and Minions illustrations designed by artist The Oatmeal.
In the game, players take turns drawing cards while trying to avoid the Exploding Minions. Certain cards such as “Defuse,” “Nope,” “See the Future” and the new “Clone Card” help players to avoid exploding. The last one who hasn’t exploded wins.
The new game is for sale at Target and the Exploding Kittens website, with a roll-out at Walmart slated for later this summer.
“We’re excited to combine one of the biggest card games with Illumination’s global pop-culture phenomenon, the Minions, to create a new family game night essential,” said Exploding Kittens Co-Creator and CEO Elan Lee. “Exploding Minions marries these two universes to create a simple yet strategic game for all to enjoy.”
