Dr. Seuss Characters Visit Empire State Building for Cat in the Hat’s 65th Anniversary

Dr. Seuss characters The Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2 will participate in a ceremonial lighting of the Empire State Building on Friday, Mar. 11 in celebration of The Cat in the Hat’s 65th Anniversary.

 

Dr. Seuss Enterprises is celebrating the 65th anniversary of the classic children’s book, The Cat in the Hat, which has captured the imaginations of young readers with its whimsical story and iconic red and white striped hat. First published in 1957, The Cat in The Hat quickly became a cultural phenomenon with excitement and fun packed into its pages. Over the past 65 years, the book has been a staple for young readers – often the first book they read, making it one of the most recognizable and beloved titles to this day. To honor the inspirational Dr. Seuss story and its enduring power to help children fall in love with reading, the Empire State Building will be lit up in red and white to represent The Cat in the Hat’s iconic striped hat.

 

The event will take place on Friday, Mar. 11, 2022, at the Empire State Building, 350 Fifth Avenue between 33rd and 34th Streets. Photo opportunity and interviews will take place on the Grand Staircase and 86th Floor. Observatory. Media check-in will be at 9:45 a.m. ET, and photo opportunities will commence at 10:00 a.m. ET.
