Chalk of the Town, the Manhattan-based maker of customizable T-shirts and tote bags with “chalkboard surfaces,” has announced a charitable giving program with City Harvest, New York City’s largest food rescue organization. With every Chalk of the Town purchase, 10 % of the profits will be donated to City Harvest, through June 15, 2020.

“We are a New York-based small business. I am a NYC native. And New Yorkers always step up to help one another in times of need, so we felt it was important for us to do our part during this unprecedented crisis,” said Sondra Mansfield, Chief Chalking Officer, Chalk of the Town. “City Harvest has always been there to help feed our great city, but we’ve certainly have never before seen anything on the scale of this pandemic. We’re happy to be able to help support the work this amazing organization, helping ensure that there’s food for our neighbors in the uncertain weeks and months ahead.”

“Designated an essential service by New York State, City Harvest has mobilized to feel all New Yorkers in need during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond,” said Kai Arrindell, Business Partnerships Manager. “We are incredibly thankful for Chalk of the Town’s support as we continue to scale up our operations to meet the overwhelming need in our city.”

Chalk of the Town is the manufacturer of a range of products that allow anyone to design and style T-shirts, totes and patches with water-based chalk markers, instantly. Once the chalk marker ink is dry, the design won’t smudge but can be erased with a damp cloth to clear the chalkboard space for a new design.

As New York City’s largest food rescue organization, City Harvest will rescue 74 million pounds of food this year, and deliver it, free of charge, to hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens and other community partners across the five boroughs.
