In its six months earnings release, Nintendo reported that between April and September of 2019, the Nintendo Switch sold 4.98 million units worldwide. The Nintendo Switch Lite has sold 1.95 million units worldwide since launching in September.
According to Reuters, the company’s 2019 second-quarter operating profits are more than double the operating profits from the second quarter last year, reflecting the sales of the Switch and Switch Lite.
The company’s operating profit for July through September of this year was 66.8 billion yen, or $615 million, compared to 30.9 billion yen the previous year.
The top-selling games for April through September were Super Mario Maker 2, which sold 3.93 million units since it was released in June; The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, which sold 3.13 million units since it was released in September; Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which sold 2.29 million units since launching in July.
Nintendo released the Switch titles Ring Fit Adventure and Luigi’s Mansion in October, with plans to release additional titles Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield in November, as well as Animal Crossing: New Horizons in March 2020.
The Nintendo Switch system, released in March 2017, is a home video game console that can be played on the go and is sold in stores at a suggested retail price of $299.99. Nintendo subsequently introduced the Nintendo Switch Lite, a smaller, handheld version of the console, currently available in stores at a suggested retail price of $199.99.
