Brandgenuity has partnered with Goliath Games, Basic Fun!, and Spirit Halloween to further the licensing program for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Carmen Sandiego brand, which launched as a Netflix animated series in January.
Goliath Games will launch a Carmen Sandiego board game while Basic Fun! is developing a handheld Carmen Sandiego game modeled off an on-screen gadget from the series. Both are anticipated to hit retail this fall. Spirit Halloween will also offer Carmen Sandiego costumes and inspired accessories in time for Halloween 2019.
Season one of the new series launched on Netflix on January 18, 2019, and stars Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) as the voice of Carmen Sandiego and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), as her tech-whiz sidekick, Player. Carmen Sandiego follows new capers and villains in every episode, and reveals for the first time, her identity as a modern-day Robin Hood traveling the globe, stealing from “vile” and giving back to its victims. A live-action movie starring Gina Rodriguez is also currently in development.
In addition to the series, HMH is bringing Carmen back across multiple channels, including a publishing program with debut title Who in the World is Carmen Sandiego?; the simultaneous Spanish-language edition, ¿Quién es Carmen Sandiego?; the Audible audiobook edition; and a Carmen in the Classroom educational program.
