Cartoon Network, Dove Partner for Global Body Confidence Campaign with Steven Universe
Dove announces a two-year global partnership with Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe to educate young people on body confidence through the cartoon’s world, characters, and themes of inclusivity and empowerment.
This collaboration comes from the Dove Self-Esteem Project which has been helping young people build self-esteem and body confidence through educational programs since 2004. The Dove Self-Esteem Project exists in 140 countries around the world and is committed to reaching 40 million young people by 2020 through its existing educational programs; and with the help of Steven Universe, will now reach 20 million more.
Using a public health intervention model, the Dove Self-Esteem Project will expand beyond structured workshops delivered by adults, to taking educational content direct to young people. In the case of the project’s partnership with Cartoon Network, this will be Steven Universe’s young viewers to positively impact their self-esteem and body confidence.
The partnership will come to life in a series of six short animated films directed by Steven Universe creator Rebecca Sugar, the first of which is now available. Working with the Dove Self-Esteem Project, all content has been co-created and grounded in scientific evidence by body image expert, Dr. Phillippa Diedrichs at the Centre for Appearance Research at the University of the West of England.
Later this year, an original song featuring the cast of the show, an accompanying music video, and an educational eBook will also be launched as part of the Dove Self-Esteem Project.
Steven Universe is the first animated series on Cartoon Network to be created by a woman. A global pop culture phenomenon recognized for its overall themes of inclusivity, empathy and relatability, the show is inspired by Rebecca’s friendship and close relationship with her younger brother Steven.
Jurassic World in Concert Premiere Set for May
Universal Brand Development and Film Concerts Live! announced the world premiere of Jurassic World in Concert, featuring the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), led by guest conductor Emil de Cou.
The NSO will perform the complete Jurassic World score live, while the 2015 film is projected in HD onto a massive screen. The opening night of Jurassic World in Concert will take place on May 30 with a special concert at the prestigious Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
Jurassic World, with its score by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino, earned a staggering $1.6 billion at the global box office and is the fourth top-grossing film of all time. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hits theaters on June 22.
Set 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park, the Jurassic World theme park lets guests experience the thrill of witnessing actual dinosaurs. But something ferocious lurks behind the Park’s attractions – a genetically modified dinosaur with savage capabilities. When the massive creature escapes, chaos erupts across the island. It’s up to Owen and Claire to save the park’s tourists from an all-out prehistoric assault.
“Michael Giacchino’s music sounds different with a live orchestra,” said Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow. “It surrounds you, strengthens your muscles, sweeps you into adventure and demands your heroic best. Hearing his music played live is one of my favorite things to do, and I’m honored to be part of this awesome event.”
Jurassic World in Concert is a follow-up to the currently touring Jurassic Park in Concert, which has been presented by more than 50 orchestras to date, with sold-out performances in cities including London, Paris, Melbourne, Toronto, Taipei and Philadelphia.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public on April 5 at 10 a.m. EDT. Details can be found at the Kennedy Center website. Further dates and cities will follow.
