Caroline Mickler Limited, an award-winning, independent licensing agency which builds licensing programs for a number of major brands, will be at stand A162 at BLE 2022 with a range of brands that underline the diversity and originality of its portfolio.
They include The Beatles, Yellow Submarine, Stanley Kubrick’s iconic films The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, and 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Masked Singer and The Masked Dancer, Fifty Shades of Grey, Horrid Henry, Toxic Waste Hazardously Sour Candy and the latest Caroline Mickler Limited signing, Molang, the kawaii digital sensation – and a brand very much for our time.
The Beatles influenced fashion and popular culture from the very start and continue to do so. This is a major licensing property with very long-term appeal and present-day relevance that has been the focus of a number of high-profile fashion collaborations, as well as a mainstay in mass-market retail, from apparel and giftware to board games, watches and much more, winning, along the way, three Best Celebrity Brand Licensing Awards in just over a decade.
Yellow Submarine Is a British animated fantasy film based on the music of The Beatles. When it was released in 1968, it was quickly recognised as a unique film, mirroring the zeitgeist of the 60s – peace, love, hope and music. Yellow Submarine is rich in extraordinary imagery which still resonates today and whose instantly recognisable imagery has inspired games, toys, high-end watches and of course apparel.
After launching the UK campaign last year, Caroline Mickler continues to build on the success of the Warner Bros global licensing program for four of Stanley Kubrick’s iconic films: The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and of course the dystopian masterpiece A Clockwork Orange, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022.
The Masked Singer is no ordinary show. It is part singing show, part guessing game full of the most extraordinary costumes – from a queen bee and a panda to a sausage – and even a grandfather clock! The audience and viewers at home have no idea who they are. It’s up to a specially chosen panel to find out. A massive TV and social media hit, its success has now inspired a licensing program for which catchphrases like “Who’s that behind the mask?” and “Don’t Speak To Me”” have inspired t-shirts, accessories and much more. After three hit UK series, the show has now been recommissioned for a fourth and fifth series. The Masked Dancer, a dance-themed version of the show, launched successfully in 2021. A new series is planned for later this year.
E L James’s adult romance trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed is this year celebrating ten years since it became a global literary phenomenon and the brand’s licensing partners are looking forward to further growth as the tenth anniversary enhances awareness. The Fifty Shades brand has been particularly boosted thanks to the recent successful launch of a new dedicated e-commerce site offering homeware, gifts and apparel that celebrate the story of Christian and Ana.
Horrid Henry is a phenomenon. The star of his own movie, stage show, festival and YouTube channel as well of course as 250 amazing animated adventures and three TV specials, as well as millions of books, he’s the number one children’s character on Nickelodeon, star of the most viewed Netflix children’s show in the UK and enjoying a growing international reach.
Horrid Henry licensing to date includes toys, games, apps, apparel and dress-up, with some major new announcements involving Top Trumps and Bookeez planned in time for BLE.
Toxic Waste Hazardously Sour Candy is a range of super-sour sweets launched in 2004 by Candy Dynamics, Indianapolis, USA and distributed by Newbridge Confectionery in Europe. It’s also a fast-growing brand.
The iconic Toxic Waste Hazardously Sour Candy 42gm Yellow Drum was launched in 2005 in the UK and has since helped the brand establish itself as the number one sour novelty brand in the UK marketplace. The brand is now valued at over £8 million at retail in the UK, offering over 15 day-to day products and a vast array of seasonal products. Toxic Waste is also continuing to grow as a licensed property with announcements involving ice cream, drinks, plush and collectibles planned for BLE.
A brand-new addition to the Caroline Mickler portfolio is the International Emmy Award-nominated 2D series Molang developed by Millimages and based on the delightfully squeezable characters designed by Hye-Ji Yoon.
Kind and affectionate Molang, who cares for everyone and everything, is an ideal brand for our times. This ageless, and gender-neutral character has a massive appeal to teenagers and young adults, who adore Molang’s empathy, softness, tenderness and joy.
Molang is a unique, instantly recognisable property which Caroline Mickler Limited is thrilled to be representing and from which the company expects a strong performance in multiple categories.
Caroline Mickler and her team will be at BLE discussing the development of all these programs along with the company’s plans for 2023. She says: “The first fully attended BLE in a number of years promises to be a great chance to catch up with our many colleagues in the licensing industry. We plan to give visitors to stand A162 – and potential partners – an insight into some truly exciting and original properties with target markets extending across a wide range of ages and interests.”
