During a night celebrating outstanding achievements in the global video game industry, Nintendo was honored at The Game Awards 2021 with the award for Best Action/Adventure Game for Metroid Dread.
It was also a special night for Nintendo’s publishing and development partners that have games playable on the Nintendo Switch system, with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy from SQUARE ENIX winning Best Narrative, Genshin Impact from miHoYo, which is coming soon to Nintendo Switch, taking home the award for Best Mobile Game and Life is Strange: True Colors, also from SQUARE ENIX, winning the Games for Impact award.
But the night was not just about handing out awards. A new trailer for the upcoming Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak expansion*, which launches for Nintendo Switch in summer 2022, also debuted. In the teaser trailer, the new monster Lunagaron was revealed, as well as the promise of a new world that players can explore and new stories to experience. In addition, three new amiibo figures featuring characters from Monster Hunter Rise will launch alongside the massive expansion (sold separately). Each new amiibo unlocks a special layered armor in the expansion.
Two additional trailers from Nintendo’s development and publishing partners also premiered during The Game Awards, including a new trailer for upcoming DLC Cuphead – The Delicious Last Course. In this new DLC, which launches for Nintendo Switch on June 30, 2022, players will be able to battle screen-filling new bosses, explore a new island and equip new weapons as new character Ms. Chalice! Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog were also surprised to see the announcement trailer for Sonic Frontiers, a new high-speed adventure through the open zones of Starfall Islands. Sonic Frontiers launches for Nintendo Switch in holiday 2022.
Nintendo also announced that players can save up to 30% or more off the digital versions of select Nintendo Switch games during a special limited-time Nintendo Game Awards 2021 promotion through Dec. 15. Games that are part of the promotion include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, Monster Hunter Rise and Doom Eternal.
