Modi Toys co-founder Avani Modi Sarkar was recognized as one of Inc.‘s 2021 Female Founders 100.
Sarkar and her brother, Viral Modi, are Indian immigrants who launched the company in 2018, after they were inspired to create plush toys that would help them to pass their cultural and religious traditions on to their first-generation, Indian-American children.
Each Modi Toys plush represents a Hindu deity and sings mantras (prayers); along with their corresponding board books, the toys aim to make learning about Hinduism easy and accessible to children.
“While being named to Inc.’s 2021 Female Founders 100 list is a great personal honor, it is even more rewarding to see our mission of creating more diverse, inclusive toys recognized,” said Sarkar.
Sarkar has also been recognized on the Forbes Next 1,000 List, as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year New Jersey Finalist, and as a Tory Burch fellow.
The Inc. Female Founders 100 list appears in its October issue.
“The 100 women highlighted on this list are inspiring, creative, tenacious, and trailblazing role models in entrepreneurship,” said Inc. editor-in-chief Scott Omelianuk. “What’s more is they were able to achieve success during one of the toughest years ever. That’s something certainly worth celebrating.”
