At San Diego Comic-Con, GameStop unveiled exclusive collectibles hitting shelves later this year.
In partnerships with Marvel and Mattel, plus DC Collectibles and Nickelodeon, GameStop announced it will carry some of the hottest Super Hero collectibles coming out of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con expo. These super heroes are sure to delight serious collectible aficionados and be top sellers as consumers start heading into the holiday season.
An anniversary duo Barbie (celebrating its 60th anniversary) teams up with Marvel Comics (celebrating its 80th anniversary) to create a special edition of Barbie X-Men dolls. GameStop will carry the popular trio of Dark Phoenix, Mystique and Storm. Now available for preorder at GameStop.com, the Marvel/Barbie X-Men dolls arrive this fall.
“Bringing classic super heroes out of comic books to a pop-cultural movie series and into collectibles is a win-win situation for fanatics of the X-Men franchise—and it gets better when two iconic brands such as Marvel and Mattel can make this happen,” said Kris Ventura, vice-president of collectibles for GameStop. “Classic fandom is at the core of our collectibles assortment and we’re excited to carry these action-packed, powerful female character collectibles.”
Also previously announced, GameStop collaborates with DC Collectibles and Nickelodeon to bring the recent animated film, Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, into an exclusive product line that will feature two-pack combinations of every superhero so that collectors receive the best of both worlds. Pre-orders are already underway at GameStop.com, where each two-pack will retail for $49.99.
“As we start thinking about the upcoming holiday season, we anticipate these legendary characters will be flying off the shelves,” added Ventura. “Customers are going to want to pre-order all the characters now so they don’t miss out on their favorite Super Heroes – plus these collectibles make perfect holiday stocking stuffers.”
The GameStop collectibles business continues to be a growing category for the company, posting a 10.5 percent increase in sales this past quarter with continued growth in both domestic and international retail stores.
